South-eastern Australia
These expeditions
take you to magnificent unheralded places close
to Sydney and show that there is a middle way between
'wilderness' and 'urban disaster'.
The programs are a mix of in-depth field trips
(accompanied by area specialists) observing the
change in bio-diversity and influences contributing to conservation,
development and degradation. Some of
these are:
- Our
population is growing, driving demand for
jobs, housing, water, exports, etc, factors
contributing to the life-style the majority
want.
- More jobs
and houses require land and social
infrastructure, which often creates further
degradation.
- As our
wealth increases, we want the weekender.
- We are
now more aware of the negative effects of
economic growth and behaviour is changing.
In the last decade there
has been a shift in the public consciousness to a view that continued
mining, land-clearing and other landscape
changing practices are having a major negative
impact. Unheralded success stories are
increasing: Landcare, schoolchildren protecting
endangered birds, the regeneration of estuaries,
the work of National Parks employees, local
government leading garbage recycling; the list
is growing as communities take action and quietly improve their environments.
Our expeditions
demonstrate that much is happening in
south-eastern Australia that brings a very
positive result to our survival. Join us and:
- Visit a part of
Australia where the bio-diversity is
increasing,
- Enjoy breathtaking
landscapes,
- Participate in legendary
Australian hospitality.
